Supported countries

3 countries · 50 calculators

A calculator on UltimateCalc does not have one set of rules with other countries bolted on. Each country the site supports has its own rule file - currency, how numbers are grouped, which units are used, when the fiscal year starts, what the sales tax is called and what its rates are - and every calculator reads from it.

These are the countries that have such a file today. Everything on this page is read from those files, so it is exactly what the calculators use.

What changes when you switch country

On any calculator that supports more than one country, a switcher at the top of the inputs lets you choose. Changing it re-expresses money in that country's currency and grouping - ₹12,34,567.89 in India becomes $1,234,567.89 in United States - and applies its rules to anything that depends on them. A figure that has no country in it, like a BMI or an age, reads the same everywhere, which is as it should be.

A calculator that lists only one country here is not being withheld from the others; it is either country-neutral, so the switcher would change nothing, or it depends on rules that have only been written for that country so far.

How the rules are kept right

  • One file per country. A rate is never typed into a calculator. When a budget changes a slab, one file changes and every affected calculator follows.
  • Dated. Each file records when its rules took effect and when they were last reviewed - the dates on the cards above. Reviews are scheduled around each country's budget cycle: April for India, January for the US and the UK, and after any budget in between.
  • Not a guarantee. Rules change and reviews can lag. The Disclaimer says what a result is and is not, and a correction with the figure you expected is the fastest way to get a stale rule fixed.

What is next

Three countries is where the site starts, not where it is meant to end. The goal is a rule file for every country the site has meaningful traffic from, so that a mortgage in Canada or VAT in Germany is handled by the same calculators with the right rules, not by a copy of the site with the numbers changed. Candidates being looked at next include the UAE, Australia, Canada, Singapore, Germany and France - none of which is supported yet, and none of which will appear above until its rules exist and have been checked.
