1. What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to keep, so the site - or a third party whose content appears on it - can recognise the same browser on a later visit. Local storage is a similar mechanism with one difference: it is never sent back to any server, so it can hold a preference without anyone being able to read it remotely.
2. Strictly necessary: what the site itself stores
The site uses no cookies of its own. It keeps two values in local storage, both purely for your convenience:
- ultimatecalc:theme
- Remembers whether you chose the light or dark theme.
- ultimatecalc:saved
- Holds results you saved with the Save button on a calculator, so they are there when you come back.
Neither contains personal information, neither is transmitted anywhere, and clearing your browser's site data removes both. The calculators work with or without them.
3. Advertising cookies (Google AdSense)
UltimateCalc is free because it shows ads. Ads are served by Google AdSense, and when an ad loads on a page, Google and the advertisers it works with may set cookies in order to:
- show you ads and count how many times each ad has been shown;
- limit how often you see the same ad;
- measure whether an ad led to a visit or a purchase; and
- where you have allowed personalised advertising, choose ads based on your visits to this and other websites.

4. Analytics cookies
To see which calculators people use and whether pages load quickly, the site may use an analytics service. Two are under consideration and they behave differently:
- Google Analytics
- Sets cookies such as
_gaand_ga_*to tell one visit from the next. Lifetime up to two years. Reports are aggregated; we do not see individuals. - Vercel Analytics
- Cookieless. It counts page views without storing anything in your browser or identifying you.
When analytics is active, the Privacy Policy describes what it collects. You can block analytics cookies through the controls in section 6, or with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
5. Affiliate cookies
If you follow an affiliate link from a calculator page to a company's site and that company later pays us a commission, it will usually have set a cookie on its own site to record that you came from ours. Those cookies belong to the company and are governed by its policy, not this one. They are not set by visiting UltimateCalc, only by following such a link.
6. How to control cookies
- Consent. Where the law requires it - including in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland - you will be asked before advertising or analytics cookies are set, and you can decline. The calculators work either way.
- Personalised ads. Turn them off at Google Ads Settings, or for many vendors at once at aboutads.info (or youronlinechoices.eu in Europe). Ads will still appear, but will not be chosen based on your browsing.
- Your browser. Every browser can block third-party cookies, block all cookies, or clear them - look for “cookies” or “site data” in its settings. Blocking cookies here does not break any calculator.
- Local storage. Clearing site data for this domain removes the theme and saved-results values listed in section 2.
7. Changes
If a new category of cookie is introduced - a different ad network, a new analytics tool - it will be added here before it goes live and the date at the top will change. Questions about this policy go to contact@ultimatecalc.in.
